In front of you there is a Gothic-Renaissance painting of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, painted on a lime tree board with tempera on chalk gesso, dimensions: 121 x 146 cm. This painting, most likely from the second half of the 15th century, has been in Zagórz for over 500 years. It depicts the scene of the Annunciation, maintained in a style typical of that era, with numerous iconic elements. Archangel Gabriel with purple wings, in richly decorated robes, supported by a page, turns to Mary. He holds a sash with an inscription in his hand. You can see a cross above the angel's forehead. The figure of the Virgin Mary is placed in the right part of the painting, next to a kneeler with a book. Mary opens her hands in a characteristic, humble gesture, and above her head two angels support a rich, decorative crown. The figure of God the Father, who sends the Child from rays to Mary along the way, is interesting. The background of the painting is a screen with an engraved plant motif. Over the past centuries, the painting has been restored and repainted several times, not always with due conservation care, but it remains not only an object of living cult, but also a valuable monument of 16th-century religious painting.
