The obelisk in front of you is the starting point of the Zagórz section of the Bieszczady Papal Trail, which was created as a result of cooperation between the Zagórz Municipality and the Society for Supporting the Development of the Zagórz Municipality with the Papal Trails Foundation. The Zagórz trail leads from the Railway Station, where the priest Karol Wojtyła stopped several times. It then passes next to the parish church of St. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where he celebrated Holy Mass. The trail continues to the ruins of the Carmelites’ Monastery, which was also on the Bieszczady route followed by the future John Paul II. Their Zagórz threads are commemorated by occasional obelisks located at the railway station and the church, as well as a commemorative plaque located in the ruins of the monastic complex.
